Guide to creating a tag and following Tilda updates using Google Tag Manager
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a service created by Google that allows you to add a GTM code snippet on your website and update the contents from the Tag Manager user interface. This means you do not need to update code snippets manually for each page. You can add both your own code as well as the codes of web analytics services such as Google Analytics.
Important: If you activate Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics, do not activate the counter in site settings as your data will be counted twice.
Step-by-step guide to creating and adding
a container on Tilda
Home page of Google Tag Manager. For registration, click SIGN UP FOR FREE.
Once you've signed in, create a new container. Enter the account that will store the containers and press Continue.
Add the name of the container – the address of the website you wanted to track with Google Tag Manager. Then click the Web button.
Familiarise yourself with the Terms of Service. Click Yes.
In the top-right corner of the window you will see your container ID, formatted as "GMT-XYYYXX". Copy it to Site Settings → Analytics and SEO → Google Tag Manager ID
After you insert your Google Tag Manager ID in the required field, click Save changes and publish the whole project (this allows Tilda to add the Google Tag Manager code to every page of your website). After you have published all the pages, go back to your account
in Google Tag Manager to add Google Analytics.
How to create tags in Google Tag Manager
You can add all new services or counters via the New Tag box that can be found in the top-left corner.
Once the tag has been created, click Tag Configuration
Add the Google Analytics tag as an example.
Leave the Page View type of tracking. Select New variable in the field Google Analytics Settings.
Insert your Google Analytics ID (read about it in our Help Center or in Google Support).

Save changes, go to Triggers settings and choose All Pages. Click Create Tag.
You can either rename the tag or leave the name as it is.

Click Publish in the upper-right corner of the screen to begin publishing your changes.

A window will appear where you can create a new version of the tag and publish all changes. Some time after the changes have been published, Google Analytics will start tracking visits to your website. You can change your current tags or add new ones, for example, to track submitted forms or referrals via external links.
